This test is the ideal certification of German language abilities for everyone wishing to study in Germany. Each year over 27,000 people take part in the TestDaF exam, making it one of the most important language certificates in Germany for non-German university applicants. The TestDaF exam takes place six times per year. The anglo-german institute offers all exam dates. TestDaF is recognised by all colleges and universities in Germany. As a rule, a TestDaF level 4 is sufficient for admission. Information on registration, exam dates and preparation courses can be found here:

Answers to the most frequently asked questions regarding the TestDaF exam.

Who can register for a TestDaF exam at the anglo-german institute?

In principle, anyone can register for a TestDaF exam. We recommend, however, that you are already  at the C1 level. The exam seats at the anglo-german institute are given first to participants in the TestDaF preparation courses and other students currently studying at our school. Other registrants are placed on a waiting list. One week before the registration deadline, any remaining exam seats are distributed to those on the waiting list. All participants must have a valid photo ID or passport.

When can I register for the TestDaF exam?

For each exam, TestDaF sets an official registration time frame. The dates can be found either directly on the TestDaF webiste or here under “TestDaF Prüfung nachschauen” (look for TestDaF exam). It is not possible to register late for the exam.

How can I register for a TestDaF exam?

You can only register for a TestDaF exam at the anglo-german institute reception desk, not on our website. At reception, after payment of exam fees (cash or EC card), you will receive a transaction number (TAN) with which you can register online via TestDaF. Please note the registration timeframe specified by TestDaF.

Do I have to visit a preparation course?

The preparation course not only guarantees you a seat on exam day, but also high-quality, targeted preparation for the exam. Of course you are also free to visit a preparation course without booking a seat in the exam.

Can I retake the exam?

The exam can be retaken as often as you like.

When do I get my results?

TestDaF publishes results release dates along with the exam dates. Results can be checked via the candidate portal on the TestDaF website about five weeks after the exam. You can pick up your certificate about six weeks after the exam at our reception. You will be notified by email when your certificate is available. Upon request, for a shipping and handling fee, we can also send you your certificate by registered post.
