History and Philosophy

Founded in 1972 as the first German branch of the London based “Pitman School of English”, not only have we continued to develop our course and exam programs, we have also changed our name and appearance.

We believe in learning communication by practicing communication. The target language is the lesson language from day one. You develop good speaking and learning habits from the start that foster efficient and sustainable learning.

Our modern, learner-centred approach varies based on the needs and learning styles of our students. Learning is efficient, interactive and fun. Authentic materials and media cultivate a realistic atmosphere of teamwork with positive effects beyond the classroom! Language learning is teamwork. Experience the joy of language with us.

agi. How I learn.

Jutta and Donald Ross establish the „Pitman School of English“ in Stuttgart. Only lessons in English are offered. Amongst the first clients are traditional companies based in Stuttgart like Daimler and Bosch. The school soon becomes the official Cambridge Examination Center in Baden-Württemberg.

German as a Foreign Language courses are offered and the name „anglo-germ institute“ is born. Family Ross is also very internationally active and are the founding members of the IALC (International Association of Language Centres). In the 1980’s Pitman retires from Germany.

The Ministry of Culture and Sport, Baden-Württemberg, recognises anglo-german institute as a Vocational College for Business Correspondence for English and Spanish.

Agi moves out of Christophstraße and into the beautiful old building in Freidrichstraße. Later, a second location in Rotebühlstraße is opened.

Gordana Novosel takes over the language school from Jutta Ross. Certified according to ISO 9001: 2008, agi becomes a member of ASSET (Association of Select Schools for English Training) and offers nationwide language training. Further examination licenses are obtained: TestDaF, telc, TOEFL, TOEIC, DTZ, BULATS.
